2010 Christian Ridge Church Softball League Rules
-
Purpose and Obective: It is extremely important to always remember the purpose of this league:
TO PROVIDE
WHOLESOME CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP AND RECREATION FOR ALL OF GOD'S CHILDREN.
- Conduct:
- Good Christian conduct and behavior is expected to be maintained AT ALL TIMES, keeping in
mind the purpose and objective.
- All participants in the game will refrain from smoking, using profanity, and the using of
alcohol or non-prescription drugs at any time prior to, during or immediately following any game.
- Penalties:
- First offense -- the offender will be dismissed from the game and the next scheduled game.
- Second offense -- A second offense by ANY member of threat team in the same game will
cause the immediate forfeiture of that game. A second time any player is found in
violation, he/she will be disqualified from ALL REMAINING (regularly scheduled and
playoff) games.
- Game Times: Make every effort to be on time. All week-night games should start at 7pm.
- Umpires:
- Each team is responsible for providing an umpire at each game. The visiting team umpire
will start behind the plate.
- Captains will approve of umpires for that night's game prior to the start of the game.
- Pitching:
All league teams will be slow-pitch, with an arc of no more than 12 feet. A mat will be
used behind home plate for balls and strikes.
- Foul Third Strike:
The foul third strike does not apply in this league.
- Intentional Walks:
Intentional walks may be given to a batter WITHOUT pitching 4 times to the plate.
Simply tell the batter to go to first base.
- Pinch Runner:
A pinch runner may run for the batter after the batter has hit the ball and made
it safely to first base. The pinch runner should be of the same gender as the
batter and should be the person who made the last out.
- Home Team Responsibilities:
- Each church will meet responsibilities for home games.
- Home church is repsonsible fo providing a regulation Softball Diamond on which to play,
according to distances, etc. as specified in Softball Rule Book. Home team will provide
home plate, bases, pitching plate and mat behind home plate. Bases may or may not be
spiked, but both teams should be made aware of the conditions prior to the start of
the game. Rubber bases are not recommended.
- Sliding:
- Metal spikes are not allowed. Plastic softball cleats are allowed.
- There is no rule that states players cannot slide into any base. The rule about bases not
being fastened down is to prevent an injury to a player when he/she does slide into a base.
We would much rather the base gave way than the arm of leg of the player. If a team
chooses NOT to let its own players slide, they SHOULD NOT try to prevent any player on the
opposing team to attempt to slide. (Sliding is necessary at times to avoid collisions between
players.)
- Score Keeping:
- If at all possible, each team should have a scorekeeper, score sheets, OFFICIAL softball
bats and a catcher's mask.
- Use of a catcher's mask is optional.
- If there is a difference in score sheets, and the difference cannot be found to the
mutual satisfaction of both scorekeepers, the home team's sheet is to be considered official.
- Cancellation of Games:
The manager of the home team is responsible for calling the game because of weather or
field conditions before the Scheduled starting time. Managers should try and notify the
other manager of the cancellation as soon as possible prior to the scheduled starting time.
Umpires will be responsible for calling the game after the scheduled starting time.
- Complete Games:
A complete game will be 7 innings. If field conditions become unsuitable to play due to darkness,
a game can be considered complete at the end of the 5th inning. If after 7 innings, the game is
tied, both umpires and coaches will meet to decide whether conditions are suitable to continue, or
if the game should be continued at a later date. If no decision can be reached, the remainder of
the game will be rescheduled.
- Incomplete Games:
- If a game is stopped for weather-related reasons and the home team is ahead after 4 1/2
innings or if the visiting team is ahead after 5 innings, the game shall be considered
complete.
- Any games stopped before this point shall be rescheduled as soon as possible,
(hopefully before the next scheduled game). When any game (except a tie game) is
rescheduled before the a complete game has been reached, the game will be re-started at the
beginning: tie games from the point at which they stopped.
- Any game, if not completed before the last regularly scheduled game, will be considered a loss
for each team toward final standings.
- Runs Limitations:
- The maximum runs earned by a team in their half of an inning cannot exceed 10 runs.
Once the 10th run crosses the plate, their at bat is over. The next inning, at bat starts
right where the prior inning ended in reference to batting order.
- Once a team is behind by 20 or more runs during the softball game, it is the option of the
captain/coach of the team which is behind to call the game. If he/she wishes to call the game,
this will be considered a victory for the opposing team.
- c. Unlimited runs are allowed for both teams in the last inning. If darkness becomes an
issue, both team managers must agree to determine when the last inning will begin.
- All-Player (AP):
- a. The use of an All-Player (AP) will be permitted as a 10th position, at the
option of the manager. This player will bat in the batting order like any other player and may play
in any fielding position at any time during the game, except as a substitute for the lack of a
female player.
- When batters are up to bat, outfielders MUST PLAY at a normal
depth. Only one outfielder at a time may change position in the outfield to play a more
shallow defensive position.
- Minimum Players:
- Each team must have a minimum of 8 players to start the game within 10 minutes of its
scheduled time or they shall forfeit the game.
- b. Each team is responsible to having a minimum of 2 female players in the line-up at all times.
This means BOTH in the field and batting orders. A team may not substitute men for women at bat to avoid
the women batting.
- If one team has only 1 female player, they will play with only 9 fielding players and must
take an automatic out (every third out) in the batting order for the missing female.
- If one team has no female players, the team will forfeit the game.
- Player Rosters:
There shall be no limit to the number of players on a team roster, however, players must
meet all requirements (described below).
- Players must be 13 or older.
- Players must have attended at least one regularly scheduled church activity per week
during four consecutive weeks before playing to become eligible, and must attend at least
one regularly scheduled activity every two weeks to maintain eligibility. SCHEDULED
SOFTBALL PRACTICES AND GAMES DO NOT COUNT AS SCHEDULED CHURCH activities.
- Players do not have to be members of the church. However, all non-member players must meet
all attendance requrements.
- Players must sign a statement relieving church and property owners where games are
played of responsibility for ANY accident. Any player under age 18 must have a
parent/guardian sign these statements.
- Post-Season Play:
- Any league sponsored post-season tournament MUST include all teams.
-
A plaque wil be given to the team with the best overall record at the end of the season. It
will be handed down at the end of the next season to the year's best team and so on every year.
- If the regular reason ends in a tie, there will be a playoff game the following Wednesday
evening. The game will be played at a neutral site. The home team will be determined by
a coin toss prior to the start of the playoff game.
- Plays at Home Plate:
To avoid a collision or other injury at home plate, a safety line for the runner will be utilized.
The safety line will be placed 6 feet from home plate. The runner coming in toward home to score
must cross the line before the ball is caught, avoiding all contact with home plate and the catcher.
The throw to home plate must be caught and the catcher must have their foot touching home plate
for the out to be made.
